I saw these cupcakes on Pinterest and I just had to make them. They were so cute and looked absolutely delicious.

Almond Maraschino Cherry Cupcakes


For the cake:
1 box white cake mix
3 eggs
1/3 cup oil
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons almond extract
1 cup maraschino cherries, roughly chopped

For the buttercream:
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
3-4 cups powdered sugar
Milk, if needed
20-24 maraschino cherries with stems for decoration

Preheat oven to 350 and line pan with cupcake liners.

Sift cake mix into a small bowl and set aside.

In a large bowl mix together eggs, oil, buttermilk, sour cream and almond extract.

Stir in cake mix, then fold in cherries.

Fill cupcakes liners 3/4 full and bake for 17-22 minutes.

Cream butter for two minutes, then add in almond extract. Gradually add powdered sugar till frosting is the right consistency. Add a little milk, if it becomes too thick.

Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes and garnish with cherry. Add sprinkles or colored sugar, if desired.
