Last night was the first frost here in New Hampshire. I walked out to my car this morning mumbling a few expletives to myself….it was not pleasant. It seems like it went from summer to fall in less than a weekend. And with fall in full swing, its time to start pulling out my apple and pumpkin recipes. Nothing beats warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream on a cold night. Plus it makes my house smell amazing. So lets start fall on the right foot with my apple crumble pie.

Apple Crumble Pie

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup vegetable shortening

1/4cup butter

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

4-5 tablespoons ice water

8 apples peeled and sliced

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

3 tablespoon butter

2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/3 cup sugar

1 cup flour

1 stick butter

1) Combine all ingredients for crust in a bowl and combine. Roll out on a floured surface and place in a greased pie plate.

2) Cut and peel apples. Place in pie crust. Add sugars, cover with cinnamon and add butter.

3) Combine all ingredients for topping and mix together with hands so it resembles a crumble. Place on top of pie.

4) Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 mins.
