About Jen

Hello! My name is Jen, I am one half of {Unconventional} Cakery. I am a crafter, baker, creative guru that plays a accountant by day. I am engaged to a wonderful man, and the proud mom of two recuses (a black lab mix, Jessie James, and a kitten, Meow Meow).

I have always enjoyed crafting and baking. When I was in high school, I dabbled in cake decorating and even took one class on the subject. When I went to college I was the girl who was always in the kitchen making food for my roommates and friends. While I was working on my degree, I got a job at a local bakery. I learned a lot from my three year stint. My favorite part of my job was to deliver the wedding cakes. I was always excited and fascinated to see how each different bride designed their weddings.

My adventure with {Unconventional} Cakery started when my high school friend, Jodes wanted to try make a birthday cake for her daughters 2nd birthday. Over the next three years we did cakes for family, friends a few paying customers along the way.

Over the past year or so, I have begun to follow two blogs, Brown Eyed Baker and Chef in Training. I enjoyed seeing their posts and have used many of the recipes from both sites for many dinners and get togethers. About two months ago, I approached Jodes and suggested we start a blog that we could showcase our cakes, recipes and crafts and here we are. Please look around the site and let us know what you think! Welcome to {Unconventional} Cakery, where you can be unconventional.

About Jodi

Welcome, I’m Jodi, or how Jen will refer to me throughout the site…Jodes.  I consider myself to be a very creative person, always have.  I have been into art, music and crafts since I was a little girl.  I’m a humble office worker by day and a busy wife and mother by night.  In what little free time I have, I enjoy many crafts from sewing clothes for my daughter, to quilting as well as trying new recipes and of course the occasional cake masterpiece with my now co-blogger Jen.

I have always enjoyed creating things.  Whether it be a new dish to put on the table for my caring husband and little girl, to sitting at the sewing machine and everything in between.  This blog was an idea that came across from Jen a few months back and I thought it would be a great idea for both of us to showcase all the things we do, or attempt to do, from food to cakes to crafts and what ever else we dabble in.

Jen and I have been friends for so long and we really do complement each other, even when its 1 am and I’m at my breaking point with a cake, she manages to get me through it.

I invite you to take a look around our site and enjoy in our adventures and sometimes misadventures.
